Update a bit. Notice there is a clash in subnets. anyone know where the addresses should be or how to figure out what they should be from the chip id's? |

WRT300N using bbhn-3.1.0-wrt300n_v1-2.4-squashfs.bin
Thank you for your reply. The WRT300N flashed with bbhn-3.1.0-wrt300n_v1-2.4-squashfs.bin and the BroadbandHamnet-20-v3 was already entered. When I try to save the configuration it tells me that and is telling me "invalid Wifi IP Address" that it needs the WiFi IP Address assigned. I thought that the IP Address was assigned by the chip identification (I know it called something else) assignment.
WIFI
Protocol Static
IP Address 10.0.0.0
NetMask 255.0.0.0
SSID BroadbandHamnet -20-v3
Mode Ad-Hoc
Channel 1
LAN setup as:
LAN Mode
IP Address 10.0.0.1
Netmask 255.255.255.248
DHCP Server
DHCP Start 2
DHCP End 6
Perhaps this is something that is in error on the software flash. As every WRT54G's I've done always assigned the WiFi address.
Thanks,

SOLD: 7 BBHN nodes for sale
These have SOLD: I have for sale 7 BBHN ham radio MESH nodes.
6 of them are a mix between Linksys WRT54G & WRT54GS models. 1 of them is the smaller Motorola WR850G.
I built one of the WRT54GS into a really nice enclosure which includes a 8db gain omni directional vertical antenna, as well as a 16db gain directional antenna. This node is weather resistant and works great up on an antenna mast as you can see in the photos.
Each device comes with a power supply, an ethernet cable and antennas.
I think 2 of them possibly have not been flashed with BBHN yet. Those that have been flashed are up to date with the newest firmware 3.1.
There are also several other ham radio uses for these devices. I have read about people using them as Ham Radio APRS internet gateways! http://www.dimebank.com/cak/k6dbg/k6dbg_igate.html
Price is $100 FIRM.

Another DNS question! How do devices just "know" the node IPs?
Well I don't understand it but somehow some routers, when they get their WAN DHCP info, they get the LAN gateway IP of the BBHN node they're connected to. But then others get a wireless node IP ... and those work! I used the same WRT54G today with Openwrt and it would give me nothing but the node's LAN IP. But then I flashed it to stock firmware and now it gets the wireless IP that knows the node names. I don't get it, but it's working now :) |

Another DNS question! How do devices just "know" the node IPs?
Hi all, I've read some interesting posts about node names and getting your PC or router to resolve them to IPs. The strange thing is, I had 3 nodes and simply connected a LAN port on one to the WAN jack on a wifi router. That was it. When I connected to the router wirelessly, with no special config it just knew where to find the nodes. But then I discovered that that router had 16mb of flash so I had to go install Openwrt on it and brick it :( So I'm just wondering, how exactly does a "blind device" on a mesh network know how to resolve node names? The other two routers I've tried will actually show the "redirecting you to ..." screen but then can't resolve the home screen for the nodes. Thanks for any help! Steve KW4WP |

Chipset/Model/Firmware ID
Hello everyone...my apologies if this is covered..I have searched and found the table of which M Series, but how can I be sure which one I am buying has the correct chipset/firmware? I'm on Ebay ready to purchase a bullet M* but want to be sure I'm getting the correct version. Is it safe to say that all bullet M2s are safe? Basically looking for either a serial number matrix, firmware ID, or something to allow an online purchase of the correct hardware. Thanks for a great resource.

As long as you leave channel selection on auto, they will avoid each other automatically. |

WRT300N using bbhn-3.1.0-wrt300n_v1-2.4-squashfs.bin
Hello all, I installed the bbhn-3.1.0-wrt300n_v1-2.4-squashfs.bin version of the firmware for the Linksys WRT300N. I think I made a mistake and assigned the SUBNET MASK to 255.255.255.0. Yes I'm fairly sure that was where my problem started. Since I saved the 10.0.0.1 as the router IP Address and the before mentioned SUBNET MASK, out of habit I guess and I've lost most touch with the router. Is there a way I can telnet (went in the telnet 192.168.1.1 using the reboot wait about 2.5 seconds and hold the restart button, so that I could connect to the router) Now I was wondering if in somewhere like /etc/config/networks if I can reset the default back into the router? If I can where might they be found and reset to what? I also had changed the node id to w4qed-100 I have a WRT54GS with v3 (w4qed-103) on it and the WRT300 does not show up at any time on the network.
Thanks and 73, Ben ARS w4qed

What do I do now?
OK I now have a pair of Bullet M2 nodes programed and looks like they are talking to each other, I have been watching videos and reading a bit on how to get them programmed to maybe run a camera or internet feed. I am not a network expert & know enough about computers to be dangerous. It seems that most of the info I have seen and videos seem to just say here is what can be done with the system. and implies that everyone knows a lot about networking. Can any one recommend any videos that explains how I can view the video on the mesh or access the internet once I power up my node. Something for the computer dummies that explains most of the steps and what to do. I am sure more people would get a node on the air and have the system more active rather than stuff sitting in the corner wanting to make it work but cant.
Thanks Rick KB0VZP

Hi,
I have spend countless hours on this ever since I read this post:
http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/applications-for-the-mesh/118-internet-relay-chat-irc.html
I have no problems running one ngircd node. However, no matter how much I've tweaked the config files, re-flashed, and pulled out my remaining hair, when I start up the two servers I get this:
Sep 5 11:44:20 KW4WP-W00 local1.info ngircd[18578]: Connection 8 (socket 8) with "10.141.213.214:6667" established. Now logging in ... And that's the problem ... "bad password". But they aren't wrong and I've tried lots of them. The internet seems to have no info on this, just on clients logging in with passwords. Any help would be appreciated!

I now have both the client and the server installed, but I cannot get them to connect. I am unclear about what address or addresses the client side requires. Also, does the client side have to have port 5525 opened? The instructions only mention the server. |

Correct, no encryption with TeamTalk.
I spent quite a bit of time trying to find out how to disable encryption with TeamSpeak and found out that because their audience is gamers and gaming competitions, they made their software non-functional without encryption enabled so that competitors can't figure out a way to listen in.
Kinda annoying, but overall I think you'll find TeamTalk much more in-line with what you're looking for. :-) |
