will encryption be a option soon?
I am starting a HSMM MESH group in Albuquerque, and our concerns are the need for encryption, since it is obvious in this application it is allowed under part 97, and necessary to keep the riff-raff out. One thing we will do is to change the crystal on all Nodes, this will help negate outsider access to the Ham mesh, but really would like the encrypt option.
Is this in development? Thanks!!! Great job so far on HSMM Mesh!!!

New Mexico HSMM-MESH Group
Thanks Admin, for creating this subforum for NM HSMM-MESH'ers!
My name is Lee, W5LMM, and I would very much like to implement a HSMM-MESH network in Albuquerque, and other areas in the state.
We are so lucky in Albuquerque to have the topography for a robust system, as well as a lot of technologically knowledgeable Hams. We have the Sandia Crest that overlooks Abq, 11,000 feet and can give us great coverage! Also Mount Taylor, and other sites around the state. We have one of the best amateur linked repeater systems in the nation as well. I just think it would be so useful to Hams living here, passing through, etc to have a HSMM system in place. Especially as a mobile station, it would be great to have internet access on the move for callbook lookups, etc, or doing SOTA, and being able to point a microwave antenna somewhere and have internet access for that. The EM-Comm aspect is AMAZING! There is large involvement in emergency management here in NM and these groups could benefit greatly from such a system.

The Serval Project
Well, it's already on Android Market, and installed on my Pantech Breakout; the truly interesting thing is that it's already set up with OLSR as an option for mesh routing.

go to network connections. right click your wireless. go to properties. go to wireless networks. go to perferred networks. remove. -------- also go to preferred networks. select network. click propreties. clear checkbox that says "connect to network even when not broadcasting"

Las Vegas HSMM-Mesh
Hello all
My Name is Dan, a Junior in high school. I am organizing a few radio amateurs here in Las Vegas, NV to coordinate a HSMM-Mesh network.
Similar but not to be confused with WIFI, this hardware software combination would allow amateur radio operators to connect computers at multi-megabyte speeds over amateur microwave bands.
This network could be used for: >VoIP (Echolink, AllStar, IRLP, D-STAR, Skype, ect.) >Video (Digital Amateur Television a.k.a. DATV, video conferencing) >Data (e-mail and internet, remote control, packet, ect.)
It would be a ham radio internet or hinternet for short. Here is a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlDwVhx7miQ
It is a mesh network, meaning that a station will automatically connect and relay data to other stations. Every station acts as a repeater, extending the coverage of the mesh network. In other words "The more the merrier!" All you need is that old wireless router laying around!
I think Southern Nevada would be a good environment for this new and exciting facet of ham radio because of its population of active Hams, its geography, and its publicity (NAB, CES, IWCE, VoIP Conference, EmcommWest).
Young kids already know how to steal the neighbors WIFI, this new kind of operation would attract them. Kids at my school aren't interested in voice, CW, or Packet. But show them a modern computer and they got it down pat! Just think, your son or daughter probably has all the right skills, minus the Amateur license!

If you like EMCOMM, Linux, microwave, VoIP, repeaters, ATV then you should join the group. We have antennas, equipment, expertise, and a plan. All we need is You!

GPS implementation for node location
Hello all Dan here in Las Vegas. The inside of a wrt-54g has a serial port. I believe it uses 3.3 or 5 volt logic. It would be trivial to solder a GPS module to the board. 5 volts, ground, and data out. Could be used for node mapping, APRS, automatic link control. ECT.....
Quote:
Byonics GPS3 - $64 This is the receiver module found inside the GPS2 (no case or DB-9 cable), for use in embedded and ultra light weight applications. It weighes 0.7oz, comes with a 4" interface cable and outputs both TTL and RS-232. Wiring is yellow:TTL data from GPS, blue:TTL data to GPS(not normally used), red:Vcc 3.3 to 5 volt DC, black:Ground, green:RS-232 data from GPS, white:RS-232 data to GPS (not normally used). Size is 32mm x 32mm x 9mm, 0.7 oz. All that is needed is the software side of it. Just a little bit of code. NOT!!!!!! That is the hard part. Dan KE7TBB

Request that HSMM-Mesh firmware be created for Ubiquiti Products
Ubiquiti advertises 50+km range for their Bullet M2HP or M5HP http://www.ubnt.com/bulletm
Questions:
1. Is 50+km close to what you're getting, line of sight? What do you think I can get with their omni antennas? (I'm thinking of using Bullet M2HPs with omni antennas at each end of the wireless link -- for portable, not mobile, operations. The range will be less, but how much less?)
2. How's the reliability of Ubiquiti equipment? What's with all the "not working, use for parts" auctions of Ubiquiti equipment on ebay?
3. What do you hope to gain with HSMM-MESH firmware versus stock firmware?
Thanks! |

Maybe it's a matter of which file format you're trying to upload or maybe the size is outsize usable parameters? |
