Is there a way to direct IP dial using the cisco sip firmware? We have some granstream ATA's and like the option of dialing by IP if an extension has not been created yet.

Hello Patrick... I guess my earlier post did not take. You can find some very decent low price high gain yagis on eBay. They average round $15 each. 73 - Wil - AB9U

Hey everyone, I just got a WRT54GS and got the firmware installed. It seems to be working but I haven't been able to connect with anyone with just the stock antennas. Next step is getting a better antenna and maybe some type of amplifier??? Does anyone have a recommendation on what kind of antenna would work? Preferably something affordable.

I'm located in Mesa at Gilbert and Baseline. If I can get a good antenna set up hopefully I can connect with a few of you.

Thanks KF5JIM, that was a super helpful response and probably a good test to determine Part-97, with a legal fail-safe in any case.

I don't know about serial numbers, as I have never seen that disclosed in the ads.  But if you go by AirOS version, it needs to be 5.5.7 or before.

[VE3KMV 2015-04-08- 04:05:48]:

OK, has anyone been able to correlate serial numbers/ranges (or slight model number
differences) between old and new hardware? That might help us determine if we can still
obtain old hardware before the point of ordering, unpacking, and powering up units; while
firmware updates are pending we can carry on in a limited sense.

Thanks Bill.

I'll do some more research on ScannerCast. Also, about the firewall... I was just curious if you did anything to help control the traffic on the mesh like blocking certain websites or if you left it up to the users to keep things legal.

Anyway, thanks for the info

I am not a lawyer, but I have spent quite some time carefully reading documentation and thinking over this topic. So, here is my carefully formulated answer:

Technically speaking, you are still operating under Part 15 rules. The only time any device or person follows Part 97 rules is when they transmit (or affix to and while under direct control...ie. RC aircraft) their FCC-Part 97-assigned call sign.

In short, anytime you identify using your FCC-assigned call sign, you are implying to the rest of the world that you and your equipment are following the rules and regulations as outlined in accordance to your license grant.

So what does this mean with respect to Broadband-Hamnet?
You and your equipment must abide by Part 97 rules and regulations as soon as you change the node name to contain your call sign. If you ever change your node name to anything else other than a call sign, then you are no longer operating under Part 97 rules and regulations, but instead fall back to and abide by Part 15 rules and regulations.

I hope this adequately and sufficiently answers your question.

After initial install of the HSMM software on a bare-bones WRT54G, is the WRT54G operating in a Part-97 way, or is it only after changing to channels -1 or 0, or amplifying power, that one is in Part-97 mode?

Gary,

I'll be moving out near Newton before the end of the year. I don't think we'll have a problem connecting once I'm up there.

I'd love to try!

WX4LTG-NSM2 is "live" in southern Scottsdale. Not seeing a whole of of neighbors out there...

I'm on a NanoStation M2, so it's directional. I see one node out east of me (KD7DMK-N13), but that's about it.

I used CoovaAP many years ago for making access to a model train layout over WiFi.

I have the Linksys WRT54GS V.3 which is still working.
Now I find it is end of life and need another model.

Also I am looking to improve my Profile and change the Avatar.

Is there a way to introduce myself and my project as well as upload a Profile avatar or attachments ?

All I get is this...

  • Warning! - Failed to move file.
  • Unable to upload file

Subject :Re:Re:Discussion: Standards & Practices - Naming your nodes and resources

Bernie,

We have not defined, per se, a naming convention.  Certainly having your callsign in the hostname will make it unique to you.   We do like to suggest something along the lines of callsign-func-number (e.g. 'ae5ae-tunnel-1'  or 'ae5ae-camera-42').  This may vary with the group or groups you mesh with..   Since most everything can be done with point and click on the web interface name lengths don't have to be extremely short.  Using hostnames like 'camera1' are likely to be duplicated when meshing at an event and cause problems.   On the other hand, something like 'My-really-nifty-mesh-node-with-lots-of-leds' could cause some mangling of web pages and irritate a fair number of people.  At least have your callsign in there and additional numbers/letters to make each node unique.

As for max length, punctuation, etc, these  are Internet standards so following them would be a very good idea.  I suggest something as simple as 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostname'  for a start.

    Have fun!

        -Rusty-

Hi Bill... Wil here - AB9U. Tried to find your email address but no luck. I'd like to take you up on your offer to add clients to your tunnel, assuming the offer is still valid that is. 73 - Wil - AB9u My email is wil@ab9u.com Thanks.

Hello all... I'm in process of setting up a tribe here in Cottonwood in the Verde Valley. I have 4 nodes up and running and one is a tunnel. Anyone in the city running a server that I can connect to as a client?

73 - Wil - AB9U    Website is http://ab9u.com email is wil@ab9u.com

PS: I've also hosted a nice high power echolink node here for a couple of years. Node 5544 covers almost the whole Verde Valley well into Sedona and Oak Creek. You'll find it here on 147.460 no pl tone. It's up 24 x 7 as long as the internet cables don't get cut again in New River. And that's why I'm setting up mesh capability.

Thanks!!   THat worked for keeping my route commands persistent across reboots!!   Yay!

However, I spoke too soon about everything working, I unfortunately Upgraded to BBHN ver 3 from ver 1, on all my devices, and now the routing rules I was using don't work.  :(

Actually it's weird.  It's kind of one way.

On the BBHN router that has the WAN port connected to 44.net stuff works with accessing both hosts on the 44 side and on the Internet thru the other BBHN router that has it's WAN port connected to the Internet.

On this router I have: route add -net 255.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 gateway W5LMM-HSMM-2 dev wl0

And on the router that the Internet is connected to the WAN port but needs to access the 44 net THRU the previous router, I have:  route add -net 44.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 gateway W5LMM-HSMM-1 dev wl0

But I can't ping any of the 44.net hosts.  However on W5LMM-HSMM-1, I can.

Don't know why it stopped working, but I assume it has to do with the v1 to v3 change.

Hi,

Our network is growing steadily and I'm looking at defining a naming convention for nodes.  I haven't yet located any technical document defining limitations e.g. max length, allowed punctuation etc. Does such a document exist ?

Thanks
