Bugger that I need more coffee... All that headache over a typo.... However that being said the error I see in the version is not there in ARDEN but it still is in Broadband-Hamnet but it appears to be a red herring. Now I am going to switch to beer and chill out for the night knowing that I have got it all working. Thanks for putting up with my ramblings...

Tried and experiment and flashed it with AREDN and it worked. I then flashed it tftp style back to Broadband-Hamnet 3.1.0 and tried it again and hey presto it works. My next problem is I have it working to a remote vpn but I am trying to get it to connect to a local one as well as this is not my node it is a node which will be a bridge between two sides of the city connecting to a VPN each side. I am running a Linksys VPN server but that should not be a problem it has enough space and all of that. Just don't have a spare Nano lying around at the moment to test. For now will just drop the device back at the other site and see if it is the fact that the nodes are too close to each other which is the problem.

I would *HIGHLY* recommend just using another wifi AP  instead of mesh access mode.  Get a router with DD-WRT or Tomato firmware, then, you can secure the wifi AP with WPA2 security.

Topic : Mesh Access Point

Just new to this and purchased a few Ubiquity Rocket M2s to play with.  I have successfully setup 2 of mesh nodes and all works if I connect using ethernet.

I was going to the standard ubiquity firmware for Wifi AP and then I saw the Mesh Access Point option thinking that this might be good to try.  It seems to connect OK and if I use manual IP addresses I can access the mesh node.  However I can no longer get DNS to resolve for the mesh node names.

Have I not clicked some option in the mesh access point settings?

Thanks in advance

Topic : Tunneling attempt at a standstill

[N6SXR 2015-04-23- 15:48:34]:

My friend and I have been attempting tunneling.  We think we have everything setup correctly but as the subject says...

I am running through a microwave link and he has the Verizon "Fusion" package.  Being that we are dealing with dynamic IPs we went to noip.com and got our domain names setup.  The DDNS updates have been setup.

First question is, will tunneling work with dynamic IPs?

Yes.

In the "Tunnel Server" dialog it asks for the client node name.  My question is is this the mesh node or the router domain name?  I trying to figure out how it knows where the mesh node is if it only has the mesh node name.

mesh node name.  The "Server" doesn't care where the client is coming from.  The DNS name is configured on the CLIENT side to call INTO the server.

Also, make sure that you forward port 5525 on your router to your server so that the traffic can get to the server node.

Enjoy!

I haven't tested tunnel installation on BBHN 3.1.0, so, I'm not sure. I think others have however. I *HAVE* tested on AREDN 3.0.2 on a NanoStation M2 (and Rocket M2) and it works fine there. There are different package repositories being used.

Hi there,

I am trying to setup a VPN client on a Nanostation M2.

Installed a clean version of 3.1.0. However I have noticed the following error when running the client install script.

* opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package kmod-tun. * kernel (= 3.3.8-1-bbdfd84029335dca3e2e14f66fb51759) *  * satisfy_dependencies_for: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for kmod-tun:Collected errors:

Note the bit in red.

Then I decided to do some more digging and the kernel version on the 3.1.0 firmware is

Package kernel (3.3.8-1-d6597ebf6203328d3519ea3c3371a493) installed in root is up to date.opkg install kernel

Note the difference in version. It is almost as though the kernel package or the kmod-tun package has been upgraded somewhere and not kept in line.

The downside is that the VPN will not connect at all. When doing a lsmod there is no tun module listed which means that the module is not loaded and the tunnel won't be able to establish.

When putting the VPN in debug mode this is what I see.

vtund[6653]: Exit

vtund[6653]: Connection denied by olson.net.nz

vtund[6653]: Connecting to olson.net.nz^C

vtund[6653]: Terminated

vtund[6653]: Connection denied by olson.net.nz

vtund[6653]: Connecting to olson.net.nz

vtund[6653]: Connection denied by olson.net.nz

Has anyone else come across this?

That will make a difference. I always plug mine into the LAN port 1.

I used firmware bbhn-3.1.0-wrt54gs-2.4-squashfs.bin and the file looks to be downloaded correctly. Should I have used a different file? I believe the router firmware is flashed, as I can see mesh-node from my laptop wireless (I'm aware that it won't communicate via wifi, but just wanted to check to see if it was working at all).

I'm new at this also. Two things I could think of... 1) make sure you have the right firmware file and 2) make sure you got a good download of the file. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Thanks NA4IT, I double checked the instructions. I get to the end of step 4. The router does its reboot, but the changes are not saved. If I return to the setup page it says the node is not configured. Also my PC does not get a new IP address from the router.

I would suggest making sure to do every step exactly as in http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/documentation/68-firmware-installation-instructions.html. I know they read kinda technical lumpy, but once you find the right section, you should be able to get it.

This is my first attempt to setup an HSMM net.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS V1.1.  I successfully updated the firmware to 3.1.0.  I can enter the basic setup information (node name and password), but after the router reboots, none of that data is saved.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have followed these instruction for trying to get my HamChat service to advertise and still have no joy. using bbhn 3.1 on Rocket M2. I was able to load with out issue and can manually call up. However is not an advertised service. Can you help?

Robert J

[VE3RRD 2015-04-01- 07:06:26]:

under "Port Forwarding, DHCP and Services" is where you "advertise" your HamChat service. NAME: AB9U HamChat Server; check the "Link" box; URL: enter "http" in second box, your node name should be in the third box; :"8080" in the fourth box and / "cgi-bin/hamchat.pl" in the last box. Then click on "Add" and "Save Changes" and that's it. Your HamChat server should now appear as a clickable link under Services on the mesh status screen.
