Topic : Adding an HTML page directly on the node

Since the nodes act as a webserver for the GUI, is there anyway to place an HTML file directly on the node that would be accessible as a service?  Similar to the way HAMCHAT is?  Looking to put a brief HTML page directly on the node that would open up and would have several links to other resources that may be available outside the mesh, like EOC websites, etc..  Looking for something simple and doesn't need to look pretty.  Could even do something that has an automatic script re-direct.  I am familiar with how to SSH into a node but wouldn't know where to put the HTML file or how it would get opened.  Thanks.

The Superstition ARC just installed a node at the "Stone Castle" repeater site near Brown and the Loop 202. So, no, it's not dead.

Topic : BBHN UK (Southern England) on 22nd May 2016

An initial, informal meeting has been planned for BBHN Operators and anyone interested in this system of digital communications on the amateur microwave bands.

The meeting is scheduled for Sunday, the 22nd of May 2016 at the Crawley Amateur Radio Club's premises - see Club Web site at http://www.carc.org.uk/  Approximate start and end times are 1000 - 1630.

Presentations and a brief demonstration will be given and discussions will be held on any future objectives the attendees may have.

A copy of the draft Agenda is available by e-mail contact from Ted, G4ELM on BBHN.Event.2016@gmail.com and the meeting will also be advertised in Scatterpoint and RadCom. Site location and access details are also available on the CARC Web site.

Attendance may be limited by travelling distance and site accommodation on this occasion but we hope for around 30 attendees.  Meetings for enthusiasts in other areas may be organised later.

Topic : ESP8266 and BBHN/HamNET

Hi W0AKO and others... Just browsing around to see if the ESP8266 had been used in BBHN or similar mesh network. I'm just getting my feet wet with them, but I've been out of touch with the mesh network stuff due to medical and accident problems. I'm interested in developments along this line of thinking, and I might be able to help out a little. (Getting old and my accident caused some brain damage) Let's hear what others have been doing on this, even if just still in the thinking stage. About 2 years ago, I played around with a bunch of WRT54's, and just now starting to resurrect the project. I think the 8266 and future chips might be the way to go "cheap". 73 de Don, AE5K (northern Arkansas)

Topic : Lack of Memory

Hi All.... I inadvertently attempted to load the tunnel server package on a non-WRT54GS, which obviously didn't take and gave me errors.  The node still works fine, but under flash memory it only shows 24 Kb in bold.  All of my other nodes (except my WRT54GS') show anywhere from 256 to 360.  This node should probably be in that range also.  Is there a way to "uninstall" what I might have already installed on it or is it safe to just do a whole re-install of the firmware from scratch.  This is a remote node and I thought it was a WRT54GS but apparently it wasn't...  OR.... if it is working fine, should I just leave it? Thanks... KA1PXZ.

The Miami Valley Mesh Alliance is making plans for a mesh presence at the Dayton Hamvention, May 20-22.   We will have a booth as last year, with a mesh network covering the Flea Market and much of the inside exhibit space.  All meshers are invited to support and participate in this event.  Volunteer opportunities are available to work at the booth and to demonstrate mesh applications  If you plan to attend and would like to participate, OR... if you have ideas, suggestions, or concerns you would like to share, please contact us at MVMA@roadrunner.com.  Bill Curtice, WA8APB

so if we have so many nodes on the google maps, why do we not have very many people on the network via Tunnel? I am attempting to get a network going across nebraska. Im starting with Grand Island and im linked into 2E0RPT so i can see everybody elses nodes via the HSMM network.

Topic : SLA batteries

I am putting up some remote cameras on a mesh.  They will have a 12350 SLA battery charged by solar.  The battery says not to put in an airtight enclosure.  They are obviously not refering to out gassing.  Is it for temperature?  I have it wrapped in 1" insulation board and will be in a water tight box.  I could add some vents but hesitate as this will be in the woods and lots of stuff can get through small screens.

It looks like broadband-hamnet.org is running Joomla 1.5. If that's true, it's probably time for an update.

Just curious if anyone else had noticed that posting on the forum takes quite a bit longer than a clean refresh(shift+f5) of the same page.

I used to convert satellite TV dishes to directional 2.4GHz antennas by replacing the feedhorn with a copper wire biquad built with a PCB ground plane. Here's one article: http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/

Yes, the links on the googlemapped mesh nodes seem to have dissapeared.

Topic : Best radio/antenna strategy?

>If I mount a Ubiquiti device at the mast-head right below the antenna, and feed the device through the Cat5 cable with power, the only RF loss will be from the device to the antenna.

You'll have minimized your feedline loss(and this can be a doosie at 2+GHz), but any antenna mismatch and connector losses will be about the same.

>Therefore all I need is a short cable with the SMA at one end and the N connector at the other end. Does this sound like I am in the ball park?

It does. To be specific, the Reverse SMA you mentioned is usually called RP-SMA(Reverse-Polarity SMA), so if your radio's RP-SMA, and your antenna is type N, you'd need an RP-SMA to N pigtail. Like http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007G5LCCW/ or http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HIJCB8/ although I haven't tested either cable assembly. -KD0LIX, Richard

Being new to the area as an Ohio transplant, I've recently gotten around to powering up the MESH node(s)and I'm not seeing any activity here in North Tarrant County, near Basswood and N Beach. Are there others active in the area? Jim W8ERW Fort Worth

I just set up my bbhn node yesterday and today when I tried to enter my username and password, it wouldn't let me in. I used "root" for my username because I didn't see anywhere to set another username. Did I do it right? If not, what should I enter in the username blank.

Topic : New Facebook group and FAQ server

As we continue to grow, we´ve formed a small team opted to handle the BBHN / AMPRnet system in SM7 area. We are now moving more and more towards using the outstanding mesh functions of BBHN as a carrier for AMPRnet.

We´ve also started a Facebook group for hamradio operators primarily for SM7, but in no way limited to that. Everyone interested or curious about this are welcome to join.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1674032772870962/

We´ve also started our FAQ server for those interested in how to startup and join the community (this is in swedish, but online translators will do the job fine). In the filearea you´ll find our Runbook for download, which is currently version 1.0, which is a living documentation and will be updated on a regular basis.
