Can hsmm-pi be changed to bbhn-pi ?
A google search helped me find the hsmm-pi project, which I downloaded and installed. After configuration, I could see my other nodes, but could not connect to them. Then I remembered that my nodes with the BBHN 3.x firmware cannot talk to nodes with the older HSMM firmware. Another google search showed me there is also a bbhn-pi project. I downloaded and installed this onto the same Pi. I was hoping it would come up as a BBHN node, but after every reboot, it still identifies as HSMM-Pi. My Linux skills are not that good. Are there steps I can take to disable the hsmm-pi scripts so the bbhn-pi scripts can run? A google search did not find the answer to this question. Maybe the bbhn-pi installation steps should include removing or disabling the hsmm-pi scripts/functions. Is there anything I can do in the current state or do I need to start over with a fresh Raspian SD? Gary

Can you view your neighboring nodes? I have the same issue. I can see my gateway node but cant see through it to the internet or anything else for that matter. I cant browse either neighbor... something broken... hardware is verified as good

Two Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 and 3.1.0
Hey there LTNS.... Finally got around to upgrading my v1.0.0 system to 3.1.0. I upgraded my N6GKJ-1 node first. Upgraded without error or issue. Upgraded N6GKJ-2 without error or issue. I am having two things happen. First off my DNS is not updating properly. If I try to browse n6gkj-1:8080 I then get a page not found error. If I put in the IPADDR:8080 It works just fine. Same for the OLSR at n6gkj:1978 ... page not found. I manually updated my host file to get around that... I should not have had to do this. 2nd issue: Node N6GKJ-1 can see N6GKJ-2 as a neighbor and vise versa that works fine. However I can't log into either neighbor I click on the link and I get page not found. I also cant ping the neighbor. I manually entered the IPADDR for the neighbor and still cant browse it.
Is there a new process I missed or am I fighting a bug. Both routers work perfectly before on v1.0.0 Any thoughts??

To answer your questions -
@KD2HKB – 1) Google “ScannerCast” I use software called ScannerCast from k1pgv.com to capture the audio coming out of my scanners, digitizing it into an audio stream and sending it out to the internet. I have a RACK full of old scanners, each one connected to its own USB sound card, all connected to one PC, utilizing this software it works like a charm! Some (not all) of my scanners feed RadioReference.com's database of scanners all over the place. 2) I don't firewall between the HamNet and the Internet – I firewall between my local network and BOTH the Internet and HamNet. I am the local Internet link for my local mesh and I allow traffic both ways.
@AB9U – I access HamChat in my browser by clicking on the link in the mesh status screen that shows all the links to all the resources out there. Once “in” you just type your callsign, hit return and you will be dumped into the char server screen. “I” get to it via clicking a link, just like any other web page... Like - http://n5mbm.endoftheinternet.org:8081/cgi-bin/hamchat And what is thunderbird?

Great story... and I'm following in your footsteps sort of. Last week saw the hatched chicks at Tractor Supply here in Cottonwood... they really do need a camera. If I can talk them into it I already know a name that might work... maybe.
One very silly question... how do you actually access hamchat? And feel free to switch me to another channel if you don't want to answer but I can't seem to find that little tidbit anywhere. I have it installed and that worked really well but I can't find how to get to it via a browser. Just so you know, I don't chat anywhere else - have never gotten into that, but Thunderbird has a chat capability now... can that be accessed?

ESP8266
I have just started playing with ESP8266 boards. I'm not very far in getting a few applications to work with AT commands and slowly hooking it up to an Arduino. I may be wrong but the potential of these chips when it comes to HSMM mesh networking is tremendous. Is anyone else out there having the same idea? Would love to see some development by someone who really knows what's going on. de

Has anyone found something like this for the BBHN?
Our mesh although we are still testing (playing) with it currently has the following. 1. Asterix PBX via an attached pi running desktop phones. 2. Chat server loaded onto one of our Linksys nodes. 3. Mailenable Standard v8 email server using "normal" clients on a Toshiba NB100 netbook. 4. IP remote controlled camera on a standalone node, and webcams using Yawcam on connected laptops. We also conducted some range checks with our standard Linksys units and so far have managed to get over 250 yards. |

Patch 3.1.0
OK I was down loading the patch to memory stick and putting it in a folder on the computer that I set up to run the mesh {no internet} after hooking the router up for internet access and down loading the patch directly to the router then running firmware upgrade it took right off. Worked fine! Guess it was being changed as I moved it. I noticed it corrected the time on the router with internet access but can I correct any remotely?
My THANKS to the group of you that taken the time to set this up as it adds to the ham hobby, great fun and a very good learning experience for those of us that up until now knew very little about 2.4Ghz or networks in general. Keep up the good work. |

Where is HamChat?
I use the free windows software WinSCP to log into my Linksys router that has HamChat. Use file protocol "SCP" with Host Name "localnode.local.mesh" and port number "2222", user name "root" and your password. As AE5AE mentioned, navigate to the "/www/hamchat/data" folder and delete all the files with name "data_####..###_#" and that's it. All the old HamChat conversations will be gone.
If you wanted to save any info that was mentioned in one of the files before you delete it, just right click on the "data_" file and select edit. |

Source code repository
Where can the Broadband-Hamnet source code be found these days? The git server at ubnt.hsmm-mesh.org has been inaccessible for some time now. I'd like to examine the changes between 3.0.0 and 3.1.0 so I can make sure hsmm-pi remains compatible.
Thanks and 73, Clayton VE3IRR
