No, it should be on the server in the Packages pulldown, but I bet I have it in the wrong place. Give me a few to figure out where I messed up and try again in a day. (I have it working for WRTs, since I have those and can test that :-) ) |

If one has a mesh network that is not connected to the internet, how does one install and enable the HamChat software? |

If this will help anyone you can go to "Forums, applications, scroll down to Hamnet server the second page down at bottom under VE3NKL 11/18/2012 and download a zip file entitled HamChat. I did know I just have to figure out what to do with. When you unzip the folder it has a nice read me file. |

Or.... save yourself a lot of trouble and go to my Hamchat.ipk message in Applications. Click on the link I provide in my message and download the
.ipk file to your PC and then upload said file via the "Choose File" in the
Package Management section of the Administration webpage on the node.
My package contains and installs all the files from the original .zip file.
With this, there is no need to follow the installation part of the README
file and all one has to do is set up the advertising for this service -- http://{mynodename}/cgi-bin/hamchat.pl |

I see 10 applications on the first page and two applications on the second page. None of them are hamnet server. I was referring to this URL: http://broadband-hamnet.org/applications-for-the-mesh.html?start=10 Is it possible to distribute HamChat in a way similar to a patch file, where an upload to the mesh node magically has the correct thing happen? Thanks and 73, Andy

HamChat "should" now be available in the package lists on UBNT gear. I had missed one little place to put stuff, but that should be fixed now. If you try it and it still does not show, email me (jim@k5ktf.com) and Ill get on it. I know it IS in the Linksys package downloader, as I ran it myself on one of my nodes and it installed with ease.

Jim, thanks for sending me the link to HamChat: http://www.bbhn.org/download/applications/hamchat_0.1_all.ipk I grabbed the file and installed it, and setup a link to advertise the service. It all works great - thanks! 73, Andy

Normally you don't. But just go into /www/hamchat/data and remove all files with the name data_#############_# (replace # with digits, 0-9). |

I use the free windows software WinSCP to log into my Linksys router that has HamChat. Use file protocol "SCP" with Host Name "localnode.local.mesh" and port number "2222", user name "root" and your password. As AE5AE mentioned, navigate to the "/www/hamchat/data" folder and delete all the files with name "data_####..###_#" and that's it. All the old HamChat conversations will be gone.
If you wanted to save any info that was mentioned in one of the files before you delete it, just right click on the "data_" file and select edit. |

Tanks to all for the assistance. I finally added WINE to the linux machine and ran winscp. Seemed the easiest thing to do. Should have done that to start with. Thanks again to all. |

Hey Jim,
After reading all this, I am still dumb as a rock. Is there a step-by-step install guide (from LINUX computer) for the WRT54, including the SCP instructions like you did for me some time back when we were linking two routers and nobody knew how? I can't seem to keep continuity on how to access the OS in the router and where to put the files when I can.
Thanks,
Jerry W0HU

Correction,
After reading again on AE5E's comments just above here, I did as instructed and it seems to have worked. So, thanks again for being there.
