Node-Node Message Transfer and WL2K
This seems to be the answer I've been looking for. We've been trying to get the new "PO" option to work with our Mesh system. We've been able to use the Telnet P2P over an internet router using addy's in the 192.168 realm. Can't figure out how to telnet over a mesh network, however.
So, it's good to hear that RMS Relay will work on MESH. Now to figure out how.

Tunnel and port forwarding
I've recently tested FTP, POP3, IMAP, SMTP across the mesh and they all do work but I found you have to be really careful to make sure every ethernet port has the right IP ports opened, such as 21, 25, etc. I made my tests ONLY using LAN ports on the router.
Also, in Windoze, for Filezilla to work, I had to open ports 21 AND 20. Port 21 alone would not work right. Using Filezilla I'd get a connection and then a timeout. Once I opened that second port I could use the ftp function in different browsers and navigate among any folders I saw, open them, read them, copy files... all of it worked.
Also in Winodoze, turning off the Firewall made everything work immediately. Then by closing it and opening the ports one by one I found the port 21 quirk. Now the firewall is all closed tight and it all still works. Hope this helps. |

Hello Patrick. I owe you an apology. The antennas I suggested are crap. Sorry about that but they are not my design.
A much better yagi is the one sold by MFJ.
Have a look at http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-1800.
Also, since you have a GS model, have you considered tunneling yet?

I am noticing that when I enable WAN access, the mesh also has access to my LAN. Isn't the a security and routing issue. Multiple nodes could be using 192.168.0.x for example and create a IP conflict.

N1MM Plus over BBHN
Thanks to AE6XE, it's all sorted out.
For those who will be attempting this soon as FD approaches. In N1MM go to: Network Status>Actions>Edit Computer Addresses Enter the name of the computer and the IP address it has on the LAN of the node that it is on. Give it a few seconds to resynch and all should be good to go.
Thank you to all who helped. It was a little easier than I was trying to make it. ;-)

I conquered the d*** thing! :) Got "Windows file sharing" done the hard way. Set up folder to be shared, and connected to \\10.x.x.x\file share. Locked in the dhcp addresses & Mac addresses of the computers.
Now to sit back and see what I've actually done. There is a 40 second delay on log updates. Still lots to learn. |

I tested over my home wifi with the same two computers and everything worked just fine. they got 192.168.0.x addresses from my WLAN DHCP and instantly saw each other and shared files. I then disabled the WLAN adapter in the laptops and connected a node to each laptop and got nothing. I'll try again and see what I can do.
I may take some screenshots of the config and you guys may hopefully be able to tell me where I've gone wrong. |

The primary mode (and the default) is the direct lan mode. If you set up the nat mode, you have to determine all the ports, forward the ports and manage any changes that may occur because of differning subnets. The direct mode gives your LAN issued DHCP addresses a 10.x.x.x on the logging computer with a subnet containing all mesh addresses.
Only those users in the NAT mode are restricted by the the above issues. Direct mode places every logging workstation on the same LAN in the same subnet.
Most importantly, if your application won't work with the member computers plugged into the same wired router (test as wired network, not a mesh) it won't work over the mesh either. |

Also, do you lose DHCP capability in adding additional connections on both router lan ports? |

Correct. I am NOT uploading the file that ends in .ppk. Does the public key need the .pub extension? I have tried it with and without the .pub extension but get the same result.
Thanks |

N1MM Plus over BBHN
So, it looks like to me that the new N1MM+ does not work over BBHN. N1MM+ wants to see all the stations on the same subnet, then uses some .NET Framework code to automatically connect them. It works fine on a normal WLAN, but when I try and connect them through the mesh, obviously, no joy. Is there a work-around that anyone knows of? I'd love to use BBHN at field day, we were planning to run some other services between the stations as well. But it's looking like we're going to be running a lot of CAT5 around.
TIA, Cameron AJ4TW |
