How To Configure Mesh Nodes for N1MM and N3FJP Video
W4GHV I was able to connect all of my clients to the server over the mesh network. Thank you for the information and the support. I have another question I am able to record data on the server database from each client, however the N3FJP network portion will not connect so I am not able to determine the status of the clients. I have tried both file sharing and TCP protocols. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and 73 from W1RGC. |

Correction,
After reading again on AE5E's comments just above here, I did as instructed and it seems to have worked. So, thanks again for being there.

Where is HamChat?
Hey Jim,
After reading all this, I am still dumb as a rock. Is there a step-by-step install guide (from LINUX computer) for the WRT54, including the SCP instructions like you did for me some time back when we were linking two routers and nobody knew how? I can't seem to keep continuity on how to access the OS in the router and where to put the files when I can.
Thanks,
Jerry W0HU

Looking for tunnel connections
A friend and myself have a "small" mesh in N Idaho. We would like to expand out and want to connect to some of the other mesh systems. At one point when connected to another ham for testing we were surprised to see 100+ nodes. If you can help out please contact me. callsign@arrl.net

sorry, Marc, I thought I replied yesterday... the system may have glitched.
I know from first hand experience, that you can change your SSID to AREDN (or anything else, for that matter), and they will interoperate. As long as the bandwidth settings, channel number, SSID, and version numbers (ie. V3), are the same.
Hope this helps. |

>>> it will "never" be a remote base platform which is a shame, I'd even pay for that.
Just so you know, it can be set up as a very functional remote base using the "profiles" option and some additional script code. You need to be in Link or Repeater option to do this and you might need an additional node number.
Using profile options you can switch from a remote base type of setup to standard link or repeater use with nothing more than a DTMF command. It's not well documented all that you can do, and that might be intentional, but experimenting with different setups, removal of canned announcements using blank audio files, and tightening down the access security options, it becomes a very good remote base engine. |

Thanks for the replies guys it is much appreciated! Do you know some of the key differences between the Broadband-Hamnet and the AREDN project? Do you know if nodes provisioned with either firmware are interoperable? I have seen people successfully connect AREDN nodes to a Broadband-Hamnet Mesh by changing the SSID to BroadbandHamnet but do you have first hand experience? No ETA. I've been working on XW support as well as other mesh-related programming things, and balancing that with research and my thesis. |

Note, the NSM5 XW has an internal switch unlike the other NSMx devices, which have 2 physical ports off the cpu. What this translates to is good and bad... The good, it's the only XW hardware that is working in the openwrt community of users right now (probably due to this switch). The bad, well not so bad, just a little twist. The switch also has issues in that it can't do dual vlan tags and untagged packets on the same port. Consequently, be sure to use the ports configured for the following function only:
main: LAN devices
secondary: DtDlink or WAN (still may require 802.1q switch, won't work if connected to most home networks)
This means you can co-locate the device at a station dtdlink'd to another node-band, plug in an ipCam/lan device, and you don't need an external network hub.

ETA of XW Platform firmware for NS M5
Good evening, I have been working on bootstrapping hamnet in my community for several weeks now. We are now engaged in purchasing and testing equipment and so I recently acquired this hardware from Ubiquiti: - RocketM5
- Sector Antenna
- NanostationM5
I was up to a good start with a flawless installation of the broadband-hamnet firmware on the RocketM5 equipment but the NanostationM5 (with the XW.v5.5.9 firmware) is giving me trouble with a message saying "Firmware image check failed. Error code: -6". The project is great and I thank you very much for the time you guys are putting into it. I am hitting what seems like a massive roadblock though and I too wonder if it would be possible to get an idea of when there might be support for the XW flashing. I would be happy to contribute too if you can point me to the most recent source code on git, svn or anywhere. Regards, Marc VA2MVC Montreal, QC, Canada

HSMM-MESH in Utah
For an FYI, there is now a node at the Westpointe Center of SLCC. It is a Ubiquiti Bullet M2HP attached to a 90 degree sector antenna. The node name is KF7NQW-WPC. I know Jerry, W0HU, can see it from his home. It is pointed approximately towards the U of U but I doubt it reaches that far. If you can access, feel free to post here.
