Static IP on Gateway Problem
I am trying to configure a HSMM-Mesh router to work with a Ubiquiti Bullet. For this particular application I must use a static ip and bridge into a 10.0 network.
I set the HSMM configuration page WAN settings to the IP I have been assigned by the network I am bridging into (10.0.2.xx) mask 255.255.0.0 along with the gateway/DNS (10.0.0.xx). I also have Gateway selected.
The Bullet is plugged into the WAN jack and my computer into one of the 4 ports. This works perfectly - I am able to surf the net and ping resources on the 10 network.
The problem is when add a second router and attempt to do this wireless. With the computer plugged into one of the 4 ports on the second router pings return with an unreachable message and I am unable to surf.
If I change the gateway router's WAN to DHCP and connect it to my home network router it works as expected - I can surf and ping wireless (via the 2 routers).
I am looking for suggestions on what to try.
Thank you and 73

I'm trying to checkout the latest firmware source...
ad500.ham-radioblahblah resolves to 71.145.134.76, but I can't ping or checkout. Just wondering if I'm using old instructions, or if there's an outage.
Thanks,

Oh no, this board is far from dead. Click on Latest Posts at the top to see.
Many of us have been swamped lately, so please dont feel offended if no one answers right away.
With a 24dBi dish on each end, we shot a 6 mile link with ease.
With a 24 Dish and a stamped yagi, 10 miles (hen the wind wasnt bouncing the yagi around)
19dBi panel should get you as far as you can see. Less if you cant see that far :-)
We have a Google map on here (look at the left menu after logging in) that I have been trying to get people to submit their Lat/Lon so others can see if there si someone close. feel free to email me yours if you like (jim@*mycallsign*.com (insert my callsign for proper address) and I will be glad to get you on the map, in case others might want to hook up.

wont flash WRT54GS v6
WRT54G models beyond 4 do not have enough memory to run HSMM-MESH(tm) firmware. Starting with version 5 they cut the memory in half and used VX Works as the OS instead of Linux. Check the amount of memory in the various versions of the WRT54G with the links to WRT54G information.
The TM version of the 54G you have has double the memory of the WRT54GL. The version 6 has half.
DD-WRT has small versions of the fw to fit into the new VXWorks cost reduced WRT54G models. They also have "Mega" versions of DD-WRT for the models with double the memory.

The WRT54GS v6 uses the Broadcom 5352 chip I have succesfuly got DD-WRT up and running. It will not flash with HSMM-MESH. I have tried bin files hsmm-mesh-0.4.2-wrt54gs.bin, hsmm-mesh-0.4.2-wrt54gs_v4.bin, hsmm-mesh-0.4.2-wrt54g.bin.
I do have one Mesh Node aready running on a WRT54G-TM.

Any mesh nodes in the Florida Panhandle?
Hello???
Well, I snagged a wrt54gl and changed the firmware successfully... But no nodes in range for it to connect to. I think I'll throw it in the car and drive about and see if there may be nodes somewhere else. I think I know where I can get a couple more of these things cheap, so I'll snag them and start my own mesh network I guess... Anybody want to venture a guess as to the range of one of these? I know that line of sight, atmospheric conditions etc etc can affect the range. I just want a "rough" answer. If one were to throw the pcb into one of those 19db gain patch antenna enclosures, what range does one expect to see?
Comments? Or is this board dead. Is there another forum that is more active maybe??? |

Yes, it would be nice. Do you have a link to the software? I have been playing with PBX in a flash, but it needs a computer to run. 73 Jim KC4BQK

There is a version of asterik VOIP server that runs on the WRT.
It would be a huge win if we get that open source server running with open mesh! |

Your in luck, James !
Next Wednesday is our Digital (packet and HSMM-MESH) Wednesday (11/26) at the Red Cross building, 7pm on Pershing Dr (just south of Manor Road, east of IH-35). If you take Manor Rd east of I-35, turn right (south) on Pershing and then look for the tower and antennas.
If you can make it, that would be great!
Im usually on 146.94 (CTCSS 107.2hz) from 6:45ish to 7:30ish AM, and then after 5 pm on my commutes.

Security
I read the article from CQ magazine talking about the ability / need for security in a network like this. I have just setup my first node (need to go find some more ...) and the key if present wasn't configurable. Is there a stock key that is used, or is there none at all? I also noted that if you put it in access point mode, it doesn't allow you to specify a password, I know that mode is more of a novelty, but I found it strange.
Any clarification would be greatly appreceated. |

managed to successfully test 3 nodes with 2 antrica 3200 encoder decoders yesterday. The video was sent from a roving camcorder via the mesh to a decoder. I've even managed to add wep encryption such as it is.
I'll try and post some more details when I get it packaged/boxed and get some proper tests done. |

The software that helps your laptop link to a wireless network has probably just saved a list of networks it has seen. There should be some sort of "refresh" feature to force the computer to take a fresh look for currently live networks.

Seeing HSMM-Mesh Nodes that are not turned on?
It has been a couple weeks since I had 3 WRT54G's talking. Now, they still show up on my laptop when I "view wireless networks". It is as if they are still up and running and showing full signals. All the nodes are unhooked. I am obviously missing something.
Let me know if you can help me understand.
Thank You, Trent/KJ4KAF |

When I find out more about how the 44.x.x.x address spaced is used (I am really thinking its a GRE tunnel) I will post some over view here, We)the Global Coordinator and myself) are still trying to get ahold of the local state coordinator for Wyoming. |
