Topic : Version 3.1.0 and Asterisk Crashes Router

Seems like up grading to Version 3.1.0 has crashed linksys WAP54GS! It Will not reboot after installing and configuring Asterisk, Just get steady DMZ light. I have Had no luck accessing the router. Unable to reset via button 30/30/30.

Before Reboot Attempting to access the router with WinSCP I get a directory error. And does not show the correct directory structure ab before attempting to install asterisk.

Any help would be great. If I must Jtag back I will stick with known working Versions 1.0 for the firmware.

Update Recovered the router. set ip on local computer 192.168.1.2

Unplug router, when DMZ comes on press reset until it flashes.

Telnet to router 192.168.1.1 cd\bin and run firstboot

return computer to obtain ip ,reboot router. Reflash with version 1.0.0 which actually works!

I guess I will just miss out on Tunneling.

So I upgrades the router to v3.0 everything works great. Set up 2 units 1 as tunnel server, other as client. No connecting all to other tun servers & clients. All 3 playing nice together, now upgradin the rest to join the group.

I have determined that on this particular device, to get around this problem, you first have to flash dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54gs.bin, and once you have that working, you can flash the standard wrt54gs 3.1.0 MESH bin.

Topic : Can't flash WRT54GS Ver1.0 v4.71.4 with 3.1.0 bin file

Hello,

After successfully flashing and setting up my first wrt54g, I attempted to flash a wrt54gs v4.71.4 with what I believe is the appropriate bin file, yet I repeatedly receive the "Upgrade are failed" message.

I tried TFTP.exe as well, with the result "no response" received.

Can anyone help me? I am all out of ideas...

Thanks,

Nick

Topic : Denial of service flaw in BBHN and older Aredn FW?

Over in the AREDN world, they found and fixed (hopefully!) a flaw:

http://www.aredn.org/content/aredn%E2%84%A2-project-announces-its-release-version-31611-firmware

SCS-2017-001 – High Severity
A remote Denial of Service flaw impacting ALL RELEASES of the AREDN/BBHN branded firmware since at least version 0.4.3. Immediate upgrade to 3.16.1.1 (or newer) is recommended to ensure stability of the mesh nodes.

Question I have is is this an issue with Linksys routers running BBHN 3.1.0 and if there'll be a new version for Linksys routers coming out to address this flaw?  AREDN is mostly for Ubiquiti nodes.

Topic : Streaming Amateur Television from Minitioune

I wonder if someone can point me to an article or give some advice about streaming amateur television on BBHN. I have acquired two WRT54GSv1.1's, reflashed them and they are both seeing each other well. I have an amateur television (DVB-S) reception programme on the PC called Minitioune. This produces a UDP output to either 230.0.0.1 port 1234 or 127.0.0.1 port 1234. I have had it streaming to VLC media player, so I know this works. It also has a local IP 192.168.1.11. I would like to get it to stream via BBHN. I am a complete beginner to networking protocols, so would be very grateful if someone could offer some guidance.

I see on the Google site that there is one node listed in Sierra Vista, AZ. Will see what transpires when I get down there.

I am planning to relocate to Sierra Vista area this month. Is anyone in that area involved or working on HSMM? I have some WRT54 routers I plan to use for a new network. Wes AE6ZM

Matt, Thanks for your prompts. Got my M2 v5.6 flashed back to v5.5 and downloaded HSMM all via the GUI as per the AREDN website. 73 David

KB9ZMR, take a look at the UBNT airRouter, it has a few more ports than the Alph ap121u. One model is cheaper than the Alpa and the High Power model about the same cost. Firmware is available here: http://www.aredn.org/content/software and compatible to bbhn. Joe AE6XE

Is there any movement on this? Or does anyone have specs, like memory and such, on this unit.

I was going to purchase a unit to test attached to a RPi, but if it can be a stand-alone node, that would be better.

David,

You should read this (if you haven't already):

http://www.aredn.org/content/uploading-firmware-ubiquiti

I performed the TFTP from within windows, using the TFTP software that I found on that page.

One trick is to keep a constant PING going while the M2 is re-booting.

Example: PING -t 192.168.1.20

During the re-boot, the PING TTL will change from 100 to 64.

You need to start the TFTP while it is still showing a TTL of 100.

Waiting until the TTL is 64 will end up in failure.

Beyond that, the only issue that I'm aware of is if you have a M2 that falls into the "XW" category.

If you have a "XW" you'll need a different BIN file than the "XM" version M2.

You can see which version (XM/XW) you have by looking under the SYSTEM tab of v5.6.2,

which will show you the current firmware loaded and more importantly whether it is

a XM or XW version.

I have performed this recovery many times using this method.

Hope this info helps!

Cheers,

Matt

well, progress of sorts, at least I see -something- happening. tftp'ing on linux ubuntu 16.04 laptop. 'putting' XM 5.5.11 to my M2 running XM 5.6.2 a couple of times results in 'error code 2, Firmware check failed'. I'm still studying all the stuff on this failure. 73 David

VE3OY Could you tell us which settings you used? I've used tftp & tftpd previously, succesfully, on Cisco phones, but getting nowhere with this, with the 5.5.11 bashing away for extended periods. 73 David

I am also using NanoStation M2's and here is what I did ... Downgrade the factory firmware to 5.5.11 using TFTP. (You MUST use TFTP to do this). Once 5.5.11 is loaded and working, you can use the firmware upgrade tool in the web admin console.
