email sent.

But, to answer part of you question, YES.  You can use DTD (device-to-device) linking to bridge between BBHN's channel 1 and other channels, like the ham only channel "-2" (2397Mhz), or 3400Mhz, or, 5900Mhz, etc.

It works very well.

Thanks for the quick reply!! OK.. So if I can't do it with the BBHN firmware, will it be possible to take part in our local mesh if they use a frequency is 2.402 Ghz?

I'm looking at picking up a new Bullet M2.  I'm wondering if these can be programmed to work down into the ham band.  2.407 Ghz, 2.402 GHz, 2.397 GHz.

Has anyone done this successfully?

PS.  I'm aware of the new v5.6xx firmware warning... I'll be careful of that.

Topic : Bridging 2.4GHz MESH to 900MHz for long haul links

Greetings.  First time poster, though I was part of a group that tried to get HSMM-MESH off the ground here in the Tulsa area back in 2011/2012, without success... now it looks like it might take off thanks to the enthusiasm of a different group.

So I've had quite a bit of experience with the Linksys hardware over the years, flashing both with OpenWRT and DD-WRT, and other things.  Set up a demo mesh back in the 2011/12 timeframe with the WRT54Gs and it worked quite well -- as long as you were close enough.  We are terrain- and tree-challenged here, though, so it was tough getting links working at our homes.

Now that I'm coming back to it, I'm thrilled to see support for Ubiquiti hardware -- especially 900MHz hardware.  900MHz would have been the answer to our problems a few years ago, I think, even with its narrower bandwidth.  900MHz isn't used much here, but we'll certainly respect the request to keep the bandwidth at 5MHz.

Among some of the other things that we can do with BBHN, one of the things that has been discussed in our group is using it for public service event communication support.  With 2.4GHz equipment, that's nearly impossible -- however, with 900MHz, it becomes very possible.  900MHz could also be used for medium-to-long haul links between non-portable nodes when necessary (and it will be here IMO).

One of the issues I see for portable nodes, however, is DTD switching or bridging the Ubiquiti devices.  I know Linksys can be 'hacked' to support DTD (though I'd prefer not to use Linksys in the field) but I'd like to know what folks are doing to enable DTD for Ubiquiti hardware with BBHN without any external hardware (e.g. switches, routers, Pi, whatever).  From what I've gathered from reading about the Nanobridge, it would *appear* that device will indeed handle bridging without the need for additional hardware -- and while I like that, I do not like the idea of a fixed dish on a portable node -- rather have something removable and easy to assemble/disassemble for field portable use).  It doesn't appear that the Rocket M9 or the Nanostation Loco M9 will actually bridge -- though I may be wrong about that.

So, I guess, the tl;dr version of this is -- can I bridge an M2 device (e.g. BulletM2) to an M9 device (any) without an external piece of equipment -- and, if so, which M9 device will work?

Thanks,

Tony KA5TRO

Topic : Dish alignment

I built a node from one of the old DISH 500 satellite dishes with a bi-quad antenna for 2.4 Ghz.  What is a good way of aligning the dish?  I've been trying to come up with ideas for a jig to help but want to see if that wheel has already been invented.

My simplest was to afix a plastic rod at the proper angle of dangle so to help point it.

Here's a keyboard to keyboard chat client that is only a few kb and resides right on your router, uses no server, just your browser. This "ipk" version makes it possible to install right from your package upload area in your node. I've got it on all 3 of my nodes!

I'm finding references to the Nano M9 and M900, are both of these compatible on the HSMM network?

I've already been hit with the Bullet2 not M2 deal and a bit concerned.

Topic : high power bullet, or nanostation M2

I am trying to decide on which one I should buy.  I have recently heard a lot of people going with the Ubiquiti NanoStation M2, and they are working very well, but what would be better (not looking at the cost difference, just performance)  The High power (800mw) with a 15 dbi omni, or a nanoStation M2 mounted at the same height and all other variables the same.  what is the better performer?

I'm looking for someone who understands Linux command line programming and setting up a TFTP server.

I have several questions that I have not been able to figure out using library books and on line tutorials.

Usually, a quick CAT5 disconnect/reconnect and/or a Browser clear cache works. (in addition to making sure that your wireless interface is disabled)

Topic : When "localnode:8080" doesn't work ...

Hardware: WRT54G v.3 and MacBook (OS X-10.10.5).

I followed the instructions and an informative online videos, but ran into trouble at the stage after the software update was uploaded. I then needed to access the menu that setup my node name (the final step). When I tried to call the menu up using "localnode:8080, it failed -- no response.

I succeeded working around the localnode problem (on my Mac) by calling up SYSTEM PREFERENCE: NETWORK : ADVANCED : TCP/IP and copying down the router ID that had been assigned.  I used <routerID>:8080 (i.e., 172.27.0.1:8080) to call the menu. It worked, and I succeeded to assign a (callsign) node name, password, and trigger a reboot.

After completing all aspects of the installation, I am still unable to localnode:8080.  I can only get into the menu with the current routerID, calling <routerID>:8080.

I hope this helps minimize someone's frustration out there ...  Tongue out

Anyone happen to see the page that talked about putting LINUX on one of these and adding it to a MESH? I saw a page a few months ago, but google brings back nothing now except articles on adding LINUX. I kind of wanted the full information.
