How to get back to a normal working router. Then you can start over with the flashing to Mesh software. This did work for me..

To reflash your router to DDWRT software -

Find your Linksys WRT54G model version of the mini_generic.bin

http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

I used this one for my v3.1 - *Note the link in the procedure section is old and no longer valid.

wget http://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/Linksys/WRT54G/v3.1/dd-
wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin/2123

Procedure -> This is directly from:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrade_from_openwrt

Upgrade from openwrt

I had a linksys WRT54GS version 2 router that I wanted to upgrade from openwrt to dd-wrt.

I could not find any documentation on how to do this. So I created this page just in case
anyone else needed to do this.

Replace your firware image referenced below with the correct image for you router.

secure shell or telnet into the router running openwrt

cd /tmp

wget http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/v24-sp1/Consumer/Linksys/WRT54GS_v2/dd-
wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin

mtd -r write dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin linux

If all goes well your router will reboot, and when it comes up it will be running dd-wrt

I did a factory defaults after the reboot, I am not sure if it is needed or not.
Digid

BIG WARNING - if this is not successful you my 'brick' your router.
There is a TFTP process or JTAG to fix but personal experience - even that sometimes
don't work.

Very timely - I have a router running OpenWRT I'd like to load BBHN on.

I know what doesn't work - trying to load any *.bin file I've tried from the OpenWRT admin page (Luci).  I also know the OpenWRT failsafe mode is more fail than safe.

I can successfully wget the ddwrt mini generic into /temp so I know I can get at least that far.

How do you go from DDWRT mini generic to BBHN?

Thanks,

Right here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Method_3:_Flashing_with_Command_Line (replacing "dd-wrt.v2x_generic.bin" with your compatible *.bin file)

To be more specific:

Once I have the DDWRT mini generic copied over and execute the mtd command, then presuming it successfully boots DDWRT and I use the reset button to restore factory defaults, THEN what is the procedure to installing BBHN?  Is there an HTTP admin page on DDWRT to install the BBHN bin file, is it something I have to do via telnet or ssh, or is it from there I install the stock Linksys bin file and then install BBHN, or where do I go from there?

You can flash a ddwrt-enabled device using telnet or ssh, or via the ddwrt Web GUI. For more information (and the easiest way), take a look at "Method 1: Flashing with Web GUI" on the same page.

You will download the respective bin file from broadband-hamnet's webpage and use that image instead of the ddwrt image under Method 1 - Part 3.2.6 (6. Click the "Browse" button and select the DD-WRT .bin file you downloaded and confirmed...replacing ddwrt's .bin file with broadband-hamnet's).

Let me know how it goes!

If it's possible to download the DDWRT bin file to /tmp and mtd it from there, is there some reason I couldn't wget the BBHN bin and have that work?  The BBHN bin file isn't much bigger than the DDWRT mini generic bin.

Mission accomplished, BBHN is now running on my Linksys.

I tried rewriting the linux partition using mtd with both the stock Linksys and BBHN bin files, no joy.  With the ddWRT bin file it worked as advertised.  It's not about filesize, the BBHN is actually smaller than the other two bin files.  The router rebooted with ddWRT and from from its' admin page I could install BBHN.

I don't know what the difference is between these bin files nor why you can't install BBHN from OpenWRT but you can from ddWRT, but suffice it to say that it's possible to get there from here but not directly.  Hopefully this thread can help out the next guy who wants to get from OpenWRT to BBHN.

Thanks for nudging me along with this.
