It took me most of the day to locate a free peer to peer video chat program that didn't require a server or Internet access. I was looking for something that would allow one PC user to video chat with another PC user over a closed network using an IP address or computer name for routing. I used to do this with Netmeeting years ago but Netmeeting isn't compatible with my Windows 7 64 bit PC.

I finally found FocusPhone at http://focusmedia.ru/prod_phone_en.htm It looks promising. Is anyone using any other free peer to peer Video chat software that they can recommend?

I like how easy FocusPhone is to configure and use. But it seems to crash every time there is a momentary disruption in the network. Has anyone found another video chat app that is more tolerant of network glitches?

I found an app that appears to work more reliably than FocusPhone. It's a free SIP client called Linphone (http://www.linphone.org/). It's available on several platforms, but I only tested it on Windows. When the network connection drops for a couple of seconds Linphone automatically resumes the session when the network connection is restored. If the network connection drops for more than 5-10 seconds Linphone closes the session but doesn't crash. I used it in peer to peer mode, but it will also work as a client to a SIP PBX.
