Hello all,

I have an issue with getting the mesh firmware (or any for that matter, even the latest Linksys firmware) to update. I keep getting " Incorrect Image file" I have also tried changing the file extention to .trx as suggested in an earlier forum post. Still no success. I have read a few others on here have had the same issue and I have never saw a final outcome or anything that might have worked. This routers original web interface looks diffrent than the normal ones I have seen. I have updated 5 of these units before with no issues, one of them was also a Ver 1.0. Does anyone know of something that will work on this unit?

Thanks

Wade

Wade, What are the first characters of your router's serial number?

The first 4 of the router that won't update are "CDFØ" I have looked up this number and from what I could find is that it should be able to work. Now the first 4 of one of my other Ver. 1 routers that took successfully is the same "CDFØ". That is what makes no sense to me. The rest of the serial number is not that far from one another numerically speaking. Hope that kind helps.. Wade KCØMLT

Ok, just wanted to be sure you didn't have a version 5 to 8 model sneak in on you.

And to be sure, you are updating from HSMM-Mesh 0.4.3 or earlier, not the original Linksys firmware?

I'm presuming this is an update from our earlier firmware so... first off, please don't go changing the extension - it won't help. Any updates from previous versions of HSMM-Mesh/BBHN firmware is done with the genuine .trx file. PERIOD! The .bin files are used strictly for first time loads into the original Linksys firmware as they have the necessary header bytes to identify the model for Linksys's loader.  Once the HSMM-MESH/BBHN firmware has been installed the router has be new loader and will not accept .bin files.

If connecting the WAN port to your home network and updating via the Internet and the Administration page doesn't work then you have three options:

  1. manually download the .trx file and upload it via the Administration page on your router.
  2. scp the .trx file to /tmp on your router, then ssh into the box and issue the command 'reflash'.
  3. Try the tftp procedure in 'http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/documentation/72-installing-firmware-with-tftp.html'
