I'm running the firmware V 1.1.2, and am having difficulty accessing the admin page on a router configured as a mesh access point.
I've tried to access it via http://172.27.0.2, which I thought was strange considering my localnode resolves to 10.153.47.49, and there was no luck there.
I've also tried http://10.153.47.50:8080/, and there is nothing there.
Here is the information from the mesh node:
WiFi address 10.19.37.230 / 8
fe80::212:17ff:fe13:25e6 Link
LAN address 10.153.47.49 / 29
fe80::212:17ff:fe13:25e4 Link
WAN address 192.168.1.104 / 24
fe80::212:17ff:fe13:25e4 Link
default gateway 192.168.1.1
your address 10.153.47.53

The Mesh access point is functioning. When I connect via wifi, my laptop gets an IP address of 10.153.47.50, and the Default Gateway is 10.153.47.49.

With the Mesh node configured as a gateway, I can even browse the Internet with the Access Point. So it seems that things are functioning - I just don't know how to access the status / configuration pages on the Mesh Access Point router to turn it back to a standard node.

Any help would be appreciated.

From a computer plugged into the access point, from a web browser use http://localap:8080 or http://localap.local.mesh:8080.

If you can get into the access point using putty you could use the command

node-setup -a mesh

This bites every user of bbhn at some point.

strangely, the system seems to be lacking the dns information to resolve localap, as whenever I look for it, I get "server not found". Should there be a standard ip address and port for localap?
For clarity, I can access localnode:8080/, but not localap:8080/

There is a FAQ entry on this at

http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/section-blog/36-network-faqs/94-i-changed-my-unit-to-mesh-ap-and-i-cant-get-back-in.html

I would recommend you set your computer to static address of 172.27.0.x where x is not 1 or 2.  I normally use 5.

Disconnect the access point from the node and connect the access point to your computer to one of the LAN ports using an ethernet cable.

From your browser go to 172.27.0.2:8080.  Yes you need the :8080

That should get you in to the web interface.

I was able to verify the above steps on a WRT54G v4 running 1.1.2

AE5CA Thank you so much for that! Lessons learned: When I had my laptop wired even to the MAP, it was the DHCP serer in the Mesh Node, not the AP, that was giving my laptop the address, so the 172 addresses were not really visible from my laptop. Switching to a static address solved that problem, and I was able to access the AP again. Once more, Thanks!

Was the solution to this ever determined? I'm having the same issue.

Ah.  Just saw AB1ST's last reply... and that (setting the laptop's IP to static 172.27.0.5) allowed me to gain access to the AP.

I am having the same issue. Tried http://localap:8080 and http://localap.localmesh:8080 without success. I'm not sure how to change the dinamic IP on my laptop to a static IP. Is there an easier way to access my WRT45G currently configued as an Access Point?

When changing the mesh node into an access point, it gets a fixed lan address for management but no longer acts as a DHCP server. You can add a DHCP server by joining another mesh node back to back. Using a spare ethernet cable, connect the node in AP mode to a normal mesh node by plugging into the lan jacks on each device. Also plug your control computer into the mesh node. Both the computer and the AP will draw an IP address from the mesh node. Now open http://localap:8080 It should get you back into the AP device and let you change it's mode back to mesh node.
