Been working many days on setting up Asterisk on a new Raspberry Pi.  Everything is going well, up to a point.

I am following the helpful videos on this site from Paul, regarding setting up Asterisk & provisioning the 7940 phones.   All long, I have been careful to follow his steps.

When the configured Cisco 7940 files are uploaded to the TFTPBoot folder on the PI, I carefully go into a 7940 and steer it to the PI's correct IP address (for the TFTP server IP), I am receiving a "File not found   SEP#######"

The weird part is that the letters SEP (above) is not a typo.  I realize that Paul's instruction is for the configuration of a CNF file starting with the letters SIP.

Regardless, even if I copy the correct SIP file and rename it to start with SEP, the same issue happens.

What is going wrong where this won't work?  I'm completely and utterly stumped, even to the point of scrapping the whole thing and building everything from the ground-up again.  Same results.

Please, please help.

I thank you kindly!  Cheers, blessings, and 73!

Todd, I'll take a look at it on the weekend when I have time and get back to you.

I found a little bit of time right now (I'm curled up in bed).

Is it indeed a 7940 phone? Or is it a 7941? The 7940 and 7941 use different firmware and configuration files. The 7940/7960 phones use the files attached to the video (SIP______.cnf). And since I never owned a 7941/7961 phone, I never made configuration files for them. Nonetheless, the 7941/7961 phones use the SEP______.cnf.xml files.

More information on configuring the 7940 and 7941 phones can be found here: http://loss4words.livejournal.com/561529.html

Firmware for the 7941 phone can be found here (you want SIP): http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/collaboration-endpoints/unified-ip-phone-7941g/model.html#~tab-downloads

Hey, thank you for the reply. The back of the phone says CP-7940G. The front says 7940 series. When I purchased the phone, the details were stated that was a refurbished SIP phone. When I browse to the phone, here's what the Device Information reports: MAC Address #####FD####A Host Name SEP#####FD####A Phone DN App Load ID P00307020300 Boot Load ID PC0303010100 Version 7.2(3.0) Expansion Module 1 Expansion Module 2 Hardware Revision 4.4 Serial Number INM#####PPF Model Number CP-7940G Codec ADLCodec Amps 5V Amp C3PO Revision 2 Message Waiting NO Gotcha on the 7941 using SEP files. That makes it really strange why a 7940 phone would use a 7941-style SEP file. Wondering if it has something to do with the Host Name value starting with "SEP". Hmmm... Anyway, your reply is greatly appreciated, Paul. (BTW, I really appreciate your work in the videos. You're a good teacher.) Todd N9ZWY

One thing I notice that could very well be causing the problem is that your phone's Application Load ID is for SCCP and not SIP. Thus, changing the TFTP server IPs and unlocking configurations is a little different (If I recall correctly: **#) as well as explaining why it is looking for a SEP## instead of a SIP## file.

Take a look at the video here for changing from SCCP to SIP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=690-4S2CS5U. Let me know how it goes!
