We just put the UBNT M5 release into beta test. I can't commit to a date on the general release yet, but it should be soon. Hey, we need assistance from owners of the following Ubiquiti M5 (5.7 GHz) devices: - Nano Beam
- Bullet HP Titanium
- Rocket HP Titanium
- PowerBridge
We currently don't have any of these, nor do our regular beta testers. If you do, then you could be a huge help to run a few tests for us to confirm we've accounted for the unique peculiarities of these devices. Please respond to this post if you can help. The testing is straight forward and shouldn't take a lot of time. Thanks and 73, Andre, K6AH

I have pair of Nano Station M5 devices available and a pair of Titanium Bullet M5 HP devices scheduled for delivery later this week. If you are still looking for volunteers, I would be happy to help. Bob, KO2F

Hey thanks Bob. We have the NanoStation M5 covered, but we'll take you up on the Titanium Bullet M5. In a day or two I'll forward a short test script and ask that you run the Bullets through it.
To be safe, before you load anything, Telnet or SSH into the devices and run the following:
1) It must still be running the AirOS.
2) Telnet or Putty into the node (default user is ubnt; password ubnt; default ip 192.168.1.20)
3) Run "cat /etc/board.info"
4) Save the resultant file and have it handy in the event we encounter anything odd.

Hi Andre,
I received my Titanium M5 HP devices today.
Did you send me a script? I haven't received anything off line from you.

We may have an issue with that device. As we were running through all the board.info files we noticed that UBNT made a board change on the Bullet M5. We will need to research the change and what it's going to take to make them compatible.
To determine whether it's the new or old board, I need you to run the following:
While it's still running the Ubiquiti AirOS:
1) Telnet or PuTTY (SSH) into the device (default user is ubnt; password ubnt; default ip 192.168.1.20)
2) Run "cat /etc/board.info"
3) Copy the resultant output and submit it as in reply to this post.
I am pretty confident we will get them running... I have a few UBNT devices that fall into this same category (NanoBeam M5 for example). We just need the time to figure out what's different about them and code the firmware to deal with it.

I could not find a better place to ask my question than here... hope nobody minds.
I have a friend in Ottawa, Canada planning to set up a couple of nanobeams but he also wants to tunnel down to me here in Arizona. Does he need to get a WRT54GS as well? From what little I know of the M5 it has only one ethernet port. Can the WAN/LAN be handled using just the one port? And are the ones that Amazon is offering compatible?

Thanks for the info. I've seen the discussion elsewhere but it did not trigger understanding on my part at that time. Any particular model of "smart" switch you'd recommend? For this particular application? |

I have successfully used Cisco 2940 8 port switches in multiple locations for BBHN. I have picked them up off of ebay and other sources off the web for about $25 a pop.

If you happen to pickup a Cisco switch this post may help.

Daryl K5DLQ, What firmware are you using with your XW devices? The release notes of course continue to list the XW devices as incompatible and unsupported. I acquired some 5.8 GHz devices last year before the XW situation became widely known, and I have not been able to purchase any old stock XM devices (although I didn't try extremely hard). If there is beta or other software available I'd like to give it a go. Thanks. Gary W6GSW District Emergency Coordinator Northeast District, Los Angeles Section Amateur Radio Emergency Service
[k5dlq 2015-05-04- 16:06:07]: Also, I am running a NanoBeam NBE-M5-19 (XW) successfully. These look like nice devices.
Good luck with your deployment. |

Gary,
we should sync up, I'm securing tower space on Pleasants Pk in Orange County now. Maybe within distance with the right link to connect up an emcomm backbone? Please note we're ready and spinning up a beta testing program now: http://www.aredn.org/content/supported-platform-matrix . There are posts for beta testers signup, and I believe there's already critical mass. Wouldn't hurt to discuss.
I can be reached at callsign soara.org or trace through the posts.
