We would like to have HSMM-MESH(tm) firmware running on more hardware platforms. We are working on it but have no published delivery date. Porting the software is much more effort than just recompiling the code. It is a very, very, very large amount of tedious work. If it was easy, we would have done it already. The advantages of having the firmware on additional hardware platforms is obvious. Several of us have Bullet hardware and will let folks know when we have the firmware running on the hardware. It will be announced on the web page. Again, no delivery date has been set.

Thanks for the update!!
I have one of each listed above, and I would be willing to test out the firmware, when you have it ready... I'm hoping to lunch the hsmm firmware on all 3 units, linking BERkeley's ARC with one remote station and another qth with Comcast the annotations will serve as the router/gateway there. I'm so stoke to move my WiFi communications out of the 2.4ghz commercial band!! Wile supporting a local and soon to grow local mesh net.... |

I was wondering if anyone in the firmware devlopment community has asked Ubiquiti for assistnce in porting the HSMM-Mesh firmware over to their products.
With 700,000+ Hams and many of them in ARES groups with interest in HSMM-Mesh, it would seem to me that they might be interested in another market for their products.
Just a thought! |

Might want to look at 'nanobridge' options.
They quote 35km I think, at full speed.
They seem to be very freq agile (ham part of 5ghz vs consumer).
I don't have any _yet_ but maybe soon.
What I do have from ubnt is a B2 and bullet M2HP (600mw N) |

Ubiquiti advertises 50+km range for their Bullet M2HP or M5HP http://www.ubnt.com/bulletm
Questions:
1. Is 50+km close to what you're getting, line of sight? What do you think I can get with their omni antennas? (I'm thinking of using Bullet M2HPs with omni antennas at each end of the wireless link -- for portable, not mobile, operations. The range will be less, but how much less?)
2. How's the reliability of Ubiquiti equipment? What's with all the "not working, use for parts" auctions of Ubiquiti equipment on ebay?
3. What do you hope to gain with HSMM-MESH firmware versus stock firmware?
Thanks! |

As to Ubiquiti reliability, here's my data point: I've been running a Nanostation 2 for a couple of years outdoors on rooftops of buildings, RV's. It seems to do well as outdoor customer premises equipment, no problems, has withstood a lot of temperature extremes and moisture. The internal 10dbi patch has worked adequately at distances of 2 miles or so.

Really? Please remember that all those involved with the firmware have real day jobs, and we do not make a dime on this project. In fact, we spend money on it, as we buy gear that gets put into public places, the webserver space is donated, and a host of other little odds and ends that take funds.
If you want it so bad, sit down, do the research, and build it yourself. When you get it done, post it back to us and we will get it up on the site.
Im really am sorry if I come off crass, but many people do not really know what is going on behind the scenes. And impatience of people begging us to deliver on their schedule is a bit irritating, knowing we all here work to make a living, then spend our free time working on this. If someone wants to donate a few hundred thou to pay us salaries so we can work on it full time, then I can see where results could be expected on a timeline. And I for one would be more than happy to do it.
Please dont reply calling me a jerk. I know I am a jerk (well, OK, worse, but I wont type that in a public forum where youngsters and religious folk may read :-) ). Its just that people need to understand that even though UBNT and other gear is great stuff, and WE would love to be able to use it ourselves, time is a major constraint. I mean, I still have 4 nodes here that I need to get upgraded to 1.0.0, and just havent had the time to sit and do it. I have some M3 nanostations/nanobridges that I would LOVE to have meshing up properly instead of just being invisible links. But again, spending time on this does not pay the electric or water or TWBC bills.
The info is out there (the forums here, etc) for individuals to manually handcraft for other platforms. What is needed is someone with the skills to do the crafting on a platform, then package it up and get it back to us to help everyone.

What type of funding would you need to get the Ubiquity firmware up and running? I'm sure we could raise the funds. |
