The firmware installation instructions mention that the wireless address is based on the last three bytes of the WiFi MAC address.  But it doesn't mention how the LAN address is chosen.  I just flashed two different machines. And they ended up with two different LAN subnets.  How are the LAN subnet numbers chosen?

Thanks,

Michael - N6MEF

Michael, I know this is an old post but I am wondering if you ever got a response or discovered the answer? I'm curious about this too. 73, Bill, N4SV

Someone out there must know the algorithm used to calculate the 10.x.x.x LAN IP addresses on a BBHN node? We know the Wi-Fi IP address is calculated from the router MAC; last 3 segments used to do a HEX to decimal conversion for each of the last 3 octets. But the LAN IP addresses seem to be something of a mystery. Clearly, since OLSR propagates BBHN LAN IP addresses to other BBHN mesh nodes, all LAN IP addressing has to be as unique as the Wi-Fi addresses are, so there are no (or virtually no) IP address conflicts. Anyway, just curious what that algorithm is that is used to create the LAN IP addresses for a BBHN node? Anyone??

There was some discussion on the AREDN forum at http://www.aredn.org/content/standards (starting at post #14) that may cover this.

Here's the math on how IP Addresses are allocated:
