any thought on changing the freq on the wrt54g to better use the bands we have?

it looks like if we can change out the 20 MHZ crystel to 10.24MHz we will be in the 23 cm band.

Channel 20 10.24
1 2412 1234.944
2 2417 1237.504
3 2422 1240.064
4 2427 1242.624
5 2432 1245.184
6 2437 1247.744
7 2442 1250.304
8 2447 1252.864
9 2452 1255.424
10 2457 1257.984
11 2462 1260.544
12 2467 1263.104
13 2472 1265.664
(14) 2484 1271.808

I've debanded just about all my bbhn nodes a year ago and wasted $70 doing so. Luckily, I kept the original crystal installed and created a switch to switch between the two so I could still use them.

You can deband your router, but you risk each one not being able to connect to the another. They will see each other in a wifi scan, but due to other internal circuitry under that metallic hood, the oscillator will not lock onto the new frequency and you will be SOL. And as a side note, changing the crystal also changes the timing with the on-board serial connector thus rendering it useless to standard serial-enabled appliances. My recommendation is to just leave it alone and stick on 2.4GHz.

That's AWFUL!! I had no idea the Slide Band mod screwed up the serial port, etc. As far as not being able to connect, that's odd, perhaps the replacement crystals are not very precise? some other variable contributing to the freq mismatch?
