OK, it's a nit, but when rebooting or applying updates, the browser window talks about the power and dmz lights turning on and off indicating when the reboot is in progress and finished. 

The power and DMZ lights don't do this on later hardware versions.   In particular, they don't do that on my 54Gv3 router.  They do blink "correctly" on my 54Gv1.1 router.

If anything, that's an OpenWRT bug.  There are peculiarities on different versions of hardware, but I'll wager that the actual mesh related parts of the firmware works identically on all of them.
