Hi,

I am brand new to this having attended a recent state RACES convention where Mesh was presented.  I got really jazzed and bought 4 routers off Ebay that arrived today.  One is a WRT54G Version 3 and the other three are WRT54GS Version 1 units.  All are running DD-WRT v24 SP2.  I was ready to flash the first one with mesh using the Admin/Firmware Upgrade when I vaguely remembered that you have to do something to dd-wrt first (erase parameters?  Killer?) so I stopped and started this post.

What is needed to mesh these units?  I am in Utah and it appears that only 3 nodes are on the map in the Salt Lake Valley so hopefully I can connect to someone.  I plan to mount one node outside, another in the shack, and setup two for portable use in public service situation.

Any help is appreciated

I received a post yesterday and with a bit of courage I loaded up two routers and they are setup and talking to each other - now the fun begins.

I am now looking for some gain antennae so I can attempt to connect to something outside my home.  I am looking for some chat, file sharing, and other apps to shoot across the ether now.  I hope to find some keyboard to keyboard applications.  I plan to do a gateway to the Internet when I can lock it down a bit.

Thanks to the OM that posted the help and I am sure I will be asking more questions later

do 30-30-30 reset on the router and then load the HSMM-Mesh firmware. Push and hold the reset button for 90+ seconds. The first 30 seconds leave the power applied. The second 30 seconds with power off. Third 30 seconds apply the poer again. It must be atleast 30 seconds each, longer is ok.
