So I have five mesh nodes setup, and was able to use my Asterisk VOIP system with them.  Amazing!  Plug & Play!

I can see this being a HUGE benefit for emergency comms.

What protocol is the server using SIP or IAX/IAX2?

SIP. I don;t know if it matters, are you having trouble with IAX? AFAIK it should all be transparent. It is bridging after all.

I have been able to get Asterisk running behind a single node, but have not been able to get it running across the mesh using SIP. I have not tried IAX yet, but it is supposed to be able to traverse a NAT without all of the problems that you get with SIP. Are you running in DMZ mode on the node in front of Asterisk? I would definitely be interested in an offline conversation with you some time about how you got it working. You can email me at my callsign @ arrl.net.

Hi W5LMM, I am interested in what to use to establish Asterisk VOIP system. Basic setup would include ATA plus phone plus mesh node? Do you have an info page on this? Thanks, W0HU@arrl.net

yes, Im extremly interested in this as well. How were you able to get the multiple Nodes to run asterisk and talk to eachother? THIS would be a great feat for what I think is an already great system.

Only 1 nodes needs asterisk on it. On the other ends, you need to forward some ports to the VoIP phone. Take a look at the posts here for more info: http://hsmm-mesh.org/hsmm-mesh-forums/view-postlist/forum-9-voip/topic-284-asterisk-running-natively-on-hsmm-mesh-node.html?start=20
