Richard (Richard WB6TAE), since you asked if there was any interest, I'd really like a copy of your modified HamChat script if you could either post a link or email to me at nhbfc(at)metrocast.net

Thanks,

Allan KB1TKM

Sure:

I have placed a copy of the archive on Dropbox.

The archive includes the original perl script and css stylesheet as well as my modified versions.  The original README is also included.  I was going to add notification for when someone leaves the chat. But, in the end I decided the code was really only good for very light usage, or demonstrations. The basic problem is with the refresh mechanism. In HamChat this is accomplished by continuously reloading the web page. This is not too bad if you are in a chat, but when the chat window is in the background, I found it distracting.

In any case, UYMMV, so good luck. I will be glad to try and answer any questions.

Thank you so much Richard, I installed the new hamchat.pl and now it comes up and asks for my Call sign when I go to the cgi-bin/hamchat file. However, once I enter that and try to proceed, I get a 404 error. I did notice that the styles.css file is only a link (71 bytes) and I'm not sure if that is an error in the downloaded zip file.

It's also possible that I get that error because nobody else is in my mesh network?

Thanks,

Allan KB1TKM

Ok... got that little problem resolved and everything is working fine now, Thanks again!!!

The fix was to modify the hamchat.pl to explicitly name the hamchat.pl file:

$self_addr = '/cgi-bin/hamchat.pl';   # URL path to this script

It was looking for hamchat as opposed to hamchat.pl

Oops. My mistake.  On my local install I renamed the executable as "hamchat" and forgot to fix that in the copy I posted. I thought it was cleaner to drop the extension -- it's not requited anyway.

Also, my mistake on the missing css stylesheet. I copied it from a work directory into which I symlink the original files.  I reposted the entire zip archive with the server names set to hamchat.pl and the missing stylesheet.

Is there a listing of Tunnel Servers somewhere?

I've got my client running and am looking to try it out.

Maybe someone in Texas?

Hi JJ, Email me at k5dlq@arrl.net. I can create an account on my tunnel server if you just want to test your client. 73, K5DLQ Darryl
