Hello all

I was talking to a ham recently about past and current status of packet radio. We both are interested in HSMM-MESH. I came to the conclusion that APRS, conventional packet, and HSMM-MESH can fully integrate into each other. As the other ham put it "something beyond 9600 ..." The load on the APRS, DXCluster, and others could be greatly reduced by utilizing the Hinternet for backhaul/backbone.

I think it could start easily. Start a VPN between Austin and Plano. San Francisco and Oregon. Vegas and New Mexico. ECT...

Apparently there are some tunnel linked meshes across the country in testing, but it's not completely ready. It's in the works though!

looking over the ipkg list, there is tinc in the repository http://www.tinc-vpn.org/ I have three nodes up in Columbus, Ohio ( Main, Test, Mobile ) and i'm game to test with any one.

TINC will not install on a GL model since the memory in GL is not sufficient, but look for my VPN thread in Problems & Answers with a solution that is lightweight and part 97 compliant. We have this solution in SM7 (south part of Sweden) and also a couple of guys in Ontario are running this. I can help you set this up if you like.

Good evening SM7I, I emailed you a while back about the tunnel process that you come up with and you sent me some info on this. However my computer had crashed and I lost everything you sent me. I would love to be able to set up a tunnel on the mesh network. If you don't mind could you go over this again with me... Thanks, W4WWS
